From side hustle to full-time income: Akin's story
Platform A.
Akin Olawale started doing weekend cleaning gigs on CitiTasker to cover rent. Eighteen months later, he leads a three-person team and has completed over 200 jobs.
The first job
Akin was working a nine-to-five at a printing company in Surulere when his neighbour mentioned CitiTasker. "I thought it was just for one-off things," he says. "I didn't think I'd keep doing it."
His first job was a same-day deep-clean in Yaba for ₦8,000. He arrived on time, finished early, and got a five-star review before he even left the building.
Building a reputation
Within three months Akin had completed 40 jobs and earned his Top Rated badge. He noticed that repeat clients asked for him specifically — and that they were willing to pay more.
"If you do a good job and communicate well, the work comes back. It's that simple," he says.
Growing the team
By month ten, demand outpaced what Akin could handle alone. He brought in two friends, trained them on the platform's standards, and registered as an agency on CitiTasker. Their team has since completed over 200 jobs with a 4.9-star average.
What he wishes he'd known earlier
- Respond to enquiries within 30 minutes. Speed matters almost as much as the work itself.
- Take before-and-after photos. They build trust with new clients and protect you in disputes.
- Set your travel radius honestly. Agreeing to jobs too far away wastes time and affects your completion rate.
Akin's advice to new taskers: "Just start. The first five reviews are the hardest to get. After that, the platform does the marketing for you."
